Polished typography, dusty neutral hues, and a typographic monogram? Be still my heart! I’m in love with every detail of this new brand for Du Castel Photography. Brad and I connected through Spoken Bride, an intentional blog and wedding-planning resource for Catholic brides.
It’s easy to get inspired when a photographer’s work is this exquisite. I think Spoken Bride captures it best:
“Brad combines photojournalism with simply posed portraits and close-ups, film with digital, and color photos with black and white to produce fine art-style images that exude a gorgeously authentic timelessness. Down to the name of the business, inspired by Brad’s grandmother’s French maiden name (it’s derived from “of the castle”) there’s a tangible sense of something classic about his work. Flip through Brad’s portfolio and that elegant, old-world sensibility is evident in every frame, yet what truly strikes us is the purity of emotion and candor in each shot.” – Spoken Bride
With that history in mind, Brad was seeking a customized and polished brand design that could appeal to high-end clients both locally and abroad. When he said that he was inspired by vintage wine bottle labels, I knew this would be a dream project.
We studied various wine bottles and old European type arrangements to develop a refined logo design: classic serif fonts with delicate tertiary typesetting, topped with a custom typographic monogram.
It’s no secret that I love typographic monograms, but there’s good reason: this element brings that one-of-a-kind touch to Du Castel’s brand. A highly customized design element always helps a brand feel more exclusive, creating a sophisticated feel that will appeal to high-end clients.
We then added a secondary illustrative option as well! Brad was inspired by European castles (a nod to his grandmother, whose maiden name inspired his business name). A delicate castle illustration was the perfect way to tie it all together in one cohesive brand design.
