DFW Wedding Invitations | Sarah Ann Design

Wording your DFW wedding invitations is no easy feat! While your invitation design is a key first impression of your special day, the written text is quick to follow. In today’s hyper-personalized wedding industry, there are countless ways to express your personality with wording. Whether you’re a traditional bride sending a formal suite, or a boho beauty mailing quirky invitations… wording plays an important role in the overall style you evoke.
Remember, the invitation wording often functions as a clue to inform guests about the level of formality—should they wear that glamorous evening gown, or throw on a fun sundress? Guests will look to your invitation as the formality standard for the occasion.
Lucky for you, I’ve seen a lot of invitations come across my desk! If you’re stuck on what to say or how to say it, I’ve got you covered. Use these samples to kickstart the process, or feel free to use them exactly as they are!
TRADITIONAL
If you’re a traditional lady, look no further than Emily Post! She’s the known authority on all things etiquette, and you can’t go wrong by following her templates (because yes, there actually is a difference between requesting the honour of your presence vs. the pleasure of your company)! She’ll also walk you through any tricky family situations like deceased- or step-parents.
Traditionally, the formal invitation also honors the hosts of the wedding. If your parents are the major financial contributors to this special celebration, it is polite to list their names on the invitation to acknowledge them as the host and/or hostess.

SEMI-FORMAL
A popular approach, semi-formal invitations drop highly formal wording without dipping too far into a playful attitude. This option lets guests know they ought to dress up, but should probably leave that evening gown in the closet for another time. There’s a lot of flexibility here; keep the formal format, but play with the wording to express the right sentiment for your celebration.

CASUAL
Going for an intimate ceremony? Or maybe a laid back, outdoor reception? Keep it casual with invitation wording that doesn’t get too stuffy. The casual nature of these invitations will indicate to guests that the ceremony and reception are not overly formal—and that the reception is going to be a party to remember! Feel free to have a little fun with it; after all, it is your day!

MINIMALISTIC
If designed well, a minimalistic approach can be chic, modern, and just informative enough. Eliminate all the unnecessary details, forgoing fluff for simple design. Thanks to the popularity of wedding websites, it’s easy to streamline your paper invitation and leave the details to your online site. Another key to minimalistic design? Cut down on overcrowded wording by separating text out into different pieces of your suite—even if it means adding a component like a details card or website URL insert.

The good news? There’s really no right or wrong way to word your invitation (except spelling errors… yikes!). These days, a casual approach is just as acceptable as a formal one. It’s all about your personality and the message you want to convey. Just be sure to check spelling, dates, and correct venue information!
