Sometimes in the midst of wedding planning, it’s hard to think about life beyond your special day. With so many to-do lists leading up to one very important occasion, it’s easy to lose sight of life after “I do.” But – of course – the wedding is only one day. It’s only the beginning to a lifetime of days, spent together as husband and wife.
If you’re lucky, your first few days as a married couple will be spent on a relaxing honeymoon getaway. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you twice: the honeymoon is a much-needed opportunity to relax and enjoy time with your new husband!
But a honeymoon is more than a relaxing vacation… it also marks the first week of your marriage. As much as you deserve to relax and decompress, you also deserve an intentional marriage, from the very beginning.
How can you start your marriage on the right foot? I’d like to recommend five intentional things you should do on your honeymoon to make the most of your first week as a married couple:
Write down everything you remember about the wedding day. Write down everything you’re feeling now. The memories will start to lose their vibrancy all too soon. As time changes and your marriage evolves, you’ll treasure the words that captured your newlywed excitement. In time, they’ll remind you how intoxicating and new it felt to be his bride. You’ll be thankful to look back on them one day and fall in love all over again, even more deeply. And, with plenty of time for relaxation, hopefully it won’t be too difficult to find time for a little written reflection!
I hope you’ll find time for one or two of these suggestions, wherever you decide to travel. Your honeymoon is more than piña coladas and sunkissed cheeks… although I hope there is plenty of that too!
With a bit of intentionality, your honeymoon can set the foundation of your married life together. I hope you’ll make the most of it—and I hope you enjoy your first week as Mr. and Mrs!
