After almost two months of married life, all I can say is that it sure is sweet. Jon and I are both feeling incredibly blessed by the gift of marriage, and can’t wait to see what else God has in store for us through this relationship. Although in many ways the wedding already seems like eons ago, special details from the big day help preserve the occasion in our memory. Tangible details have a way with my heart… from my wedding day perfume (the first fragrance Jon ever gifted to me, circa 2009!) to my mom’s wedding rosary wrapped around the bridal bouquet, little things like these made all the difference.
Of course, exquisite paper details were a must for me. But there is no tougher client than yourself! If only y’all knew how many “E”s I went through before printing!! The creative vision for this suite was always there. True to my aesthetic, I wanted a classic and subtle invitation suite that nuanced neutral colors and traditional typography… with just enough personality in the illustrated details.
I was lucky enough to begin this project back when I was still in school, under the guidance of my favorite professor. We hammered out the general templates and fussed over a few typographic details, and from there I crafted the remainder of our suite.
This classic invitation suite brings together traditional serifs and custom calligraphy for an elegant, understated aesthetic. A neutral color palette keeps this design gracefully subtle; I used a soft dove gray throughout the suite, printed on barely off-white cotton paper. Letterpress printing (shout out to Elefant Press!) provided just the right amount of textural depth. On calligraphic style, I opted for an approach that balanced the modern and traditional lettering. The loose script and moving baseline brought a distinctive touch to an otherwise classic layout.
Envelopes maintained a cohesive aesthetic with cotton paper and dove gray calligraphy. Each guest received a hand-calligraphed envelope; inside was the carefully assembled invitation suite (invitation, response card, response envelope, and details insert), bound by a delicate silk navy ribbon and custom-monogrammed copper wax seal.
The favor was a Catholic tradition: blessed salt. Custom-printed tags accompanied these miniature salt shakers, affixed to a note from the bride and groom. We then added programs, menus, and custom table signage to complete a polished look from head to toe! This design was traditional, elegant, and simple… letting the tiny personalized details speak volumes. I’m still in love with the way it turned out, and hope guests were equally pleased to receive these pretty paper goods!
Thank you to Angela Sostarich Photography for capturing all the details. These images are truly a treasure to Jon and me (as well as our families) and perfectly capture the memories of our happy day.
